Ayurveda Health
I’ve been sharing bits and pieces about Ayurveda. We have discussed how in Ayurveda, the health is defined as a state of balance of what we call the three humors, and all physical aspects of the body, the senses and psyche being in balance as relates to the original shape of the body and all its functions.
Prakriti, our unique genetic makeup, is determined by our parent’s constitution, time and place of birth and any physical, psychological and environmental factors. It is our unique genetic makeup. In Ayurveda we see the body as constantly being influenced by these factors. These factors are our daily routine, changes of seasons, diet, lifestyle and exercise, all contribute to the balance of our health.
In Ayurveda we look at the body in balance. The Dosha (bio-humors), DHATU (tissues), MALA (waste elimination) and AGNI (Digestive Fire) all contribute to that balance. The balance of body, mind and spirit.
When you look at the cost of allopathic or traditional health care, then compare it to the Ayurvedic practice, you will find a marked decrease in expense over all. When you think about conventional medicine, you may hear that it is well researched, they are still only addressing the symptoms. Ayurvedic Medicine is purely geared toward prevention first, maintaining good health and if necessary, treating dis-ease or symptoms. Allopathic medicine treats the disease but looking at the disease, not the body. Ayurveda, looks at the body as a whole, body, mind , and spirit, to fight against disease.
Ayurvedic medicine can be used along with conventional medicine in most cases. When I work with a patient or client, I work with them and their physician, if they have specific medical needs. I never advocate for anyone to stop taking medications without talking to their medical provider.
Definition of Health in Ayurveda
I’ve provided the definition of Ayurveda in other posts and videos but want to quickly remind you that Ayurveda sees health as a state of balance of physical body, senses and spirit (psyche). The scientific community has validated this concept of the health is a state of balance. According to Ayurvedic Medicine, it is essential to maintain the balance of three three Doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha)), and Seven Dhataus (tissue), and three Mala (elimination), and a balanced soul, senses, and mind. Known as Health in Ayurveda.
Ayurvedic Treatments
Ayurvedic treatment looks at the complete aspect of the disease process, not only the cause. It includes the following methods as treatment:
- pacification and elimination treatments to combat the disease process.
- diet and lifestyle recommendations,
- herbs and various rejuvenation and
- detox methods to help to bring the balance
Ayurvedic medicine has been proven for thousands of years, to bring balance to the human body. It is not only a way to bring balance back to the body, but it also offers an opportunity to educate about the food we put in out body. And how that food either heals or hurts the system. We can never learn too much. And we’re never too old to learn.
