In Ayurvedic treatment everything is connected. We are connected to our environment, our thoughts are connected to the illness that manifests in our body.
Many people see themselves as an island. Nothing is further from the truth. We are all connected to the oneness we call God, or Spirit, or Universe, or whatever you see creation as being. We see mind, body and spirit as being disconnected from one another. We see them as isolated from each other not connected, with no ability to communicate with each aspect of self. This doesn’t make sense in Ayurveda.
We can’t separate the individual from his environment any more than we can disconnect the body from the mind or spirit. What appears in the microcosm, manifests in the macrocosm or external realm. Humans are made up of the same energy that makes up the universe. We are a product of Cosmic Consciousness – Prakruti.
When we talk about a holistic vision we talk about a whole – istic vision. Whole being everything, all things, all energy each a manifestation of the other or an indication of what will be. In Ayurveda the belief is that each person, each body, soul, spirit constitutes a whole universe. Think about it. You see images of what we are told is “space”, “the milkyway”, The universe. Those images that you see are an outer mirror of what’s going on inside you. You are your own universe. Remember – microcosm/Macrocosm? When we look at the whole we see more than one unit. We see individual sparks of light, that together make up the whole. Looking at this we consider the Ayurvedic treatment in the same way. We as individuals of the whole are unique. So, the treatment that might work for one, will not for another. This is why we don’t treat an illness with it’s own treatment, but rather we restore the state of health and prevent disease by giving each person a specific treatment.
As we get closer to closing out this video I’d like to confirm that before we continue, we must agree that the natural state of the body is “good health”. I know, as we go about our daily lives we are bombarded with viruses and bacteria, and more. Our body does it’s best to fight off these foreign agents, to remain in a state of perfect health or homeostasis. We try to remain a body of balanced energy.
Unfortunately, our life choices, such as diet, stress or fatigue may upset the balance we came into this world with. This upsets the balance and causes illness or disease. Ayurvedic treatment can help return you to that natural state of balance.
We all desire to live in harmony. In harmony with our spouse, our children, our parents. We desire to live in harmony with our neighbors and coworkers. But have you ever considered living in harmony with your body, mind, and soul? Ayurveda is the perfect way to find the balance that brings that harmony into your body. Remember what you create internal, you manifest externally (microcosm/Microcosm).
It is fortunate that Ayurveda can be practiced without the strict discipline of the other two aspects that help us reach the balance that brings in that harmony. I’d like to mention those here, not because I will be teaching you about them, but because they are important aspects of your whole body healing. Yoga and Tantra are the remaining aspects that help us to achieve a perfect balance. These require much time, knowledge, and discipline. For these two practices, you will have to look outside of the information I am qualified to share. They are three parts of the same whole and should you be prepared, I recommend you search out a qualified teacher to assist you to grow in these areas.
We can never learn too much. We can never outgrow the information that exists and is ready for us to absorb. Today is just the beginning. Today is the day that we begin the journey of knowing thyself through the Ayurvedic practice. That which will open the floodgates causing you to want to know more.
I hope you all have a great day.
